Currency
Ghana`s currency is the Cedi ( )which comes in denominations
of 200, 500, 1.000, 2.000, and 5.000 bills. Coins comes in denominations
0f 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500.
There is no restriction on the amount of foreign you may bring into
Ghana. This must, however, be stated on the currency declaration form.
Foreign currency can be freely exchanged at any `forex bureaux` in the
country. Commercial banks Apart from forex bureaux, some commercial
banks also exchange foreign currency. Banks are normally open from 8:30am
to 2:30pm, Mondays though Thursday and until 3pm on Fridays.
Travelers cheques
All banks and forex bureaux accept travelers cheques although the rate
of exchange might be slightly lower than for a cash transation.
Credit cards
Many places take major international credit cards such as Visa, Mastercard,
America Express, and Diners. Your card may be used for payment at nearly
all airlines, leading hotels and major supermarkets. Customs Whether
entering or leaving Ghana, you will almost certainly be asked to declare
your local currency money. There are know restrictions on importing
foreign currency, but be sure to get currency declaration form for recording
official transaction, as customs may insist on inspecting it.
Visa requirements A valid single or multiple entry visa is
required to enter Ghana, available from Ghana missions and embassies
abroad.
Passport
You should carry your passport at all times or at least a photocopy
as Police occasionally ask travelers for their papers.
